Show Getting Things Done at Hinckley ; The regular meeting of the , Home Economics Association of '. Hinckley held Feb'y 10, at the . Relief Hall was made a social and intellectual treat as well as a real feal feast from the pretty , lunch basket? provided by the , members of the Association. The program was under the p direction of the civics committee. , It seems the ladies of this Ass'r . have set out to "get things done I in Hinckley" this year and since there is need of a little masculine , muscle coupled with woman's wit to accomplish these tasks, they invited their husbands tc 5 meet with them and proceedec in the usual manner to read: their hearts. Miss Eyring and Mrs. Maggie , Ryan acted as judges of the lunch contest and the prize foi t the prettest basket was given tc , Mrs. Blackburn. As a substitute for toasts between courses, shor 1 spicy talks were made whicr , dealt with the 'projects to bt r developed the coming year namely, "The Home Garden Con test" and "The Erection of San itary Toilets." Farm Demon strator J. P. Welch told how t( raise a garden and emphasizec ' the value of vegetables in th e human diet. -! Mr. Jackson, our blacksmith s spoke of the value of sheds foi . machinery and urged farmers t . oil harness and repair machinery during the winter months whet there was little else to be done e Mr. Gillen of the Bonnevill n Lumber Company told how t j construct an out door sanitarj 2 toilet and showed plans anc specifications for the same tha q were good and quite inexpen y sive. g Dr. C. A. Broaddus explainec the indoor sanitary toilet anc made valuable suggestions oi improving sanitary condition: generally about farmsteads. Hi s agreed to give a free dance t 3 the town if fifty men, betweei e this date and Sunday evening - would inspect the unsanitary r toilets of the school, sign theii names to a paper he would pos y and then go across the street t( x Frank Wright's, inspect his new - sanitary toilet and sign an agree ment to build one similar to ii - within six weeks. -i John E. Blake assurec s the Ass'n that the Town Boarc e would loyally support them ir their efforts for a clean town. e John Hutchinson sang somt " comic songs in characteristic negro style. Mrs. Clay sang an old time J ballad. 1 Mrs. Broaddus also rendered 3 some fine' musical selections. - The closing numbers of the 5 program were folk songs sung 1 oy all assembled. Enthusiasm for the work of ' the Association 'ran high and as r all men know, when the women get out on such a campaign the 3 best thing to do is to get in line, ' so watch conditions improve in Hinckley, t |
