Show HIKES AiilG More money and more men are coming com-ing to Mackay and Custer county, Idaho, this summer than ever before. Exports of copper from the United States for the ten months ended April 30 were 557,000,000 pounds, against 576,000,000 pounds in the same period of last year. (Shipments of ore and concentrates from the mines and mills of Park City last week total 1,469 tons, estimated esti-mated at $56,000. This is compared with 1,229 tons the previous week. Due to the discovery in Morehouse canyon, about thirty miles from Park City, of a good looking lead-silver vein that has -been struck on the surface, there is considerable excitement in that section. Mackay, the "Copper City of Idaho," has been living up to the name and is this year producing more copper than ever before, but this is not to be the only metal produced in this section and shipped from Mackay. With the 4,600-foot tramway completed, com-pleted, the mill in shape to be warmed up by August 15 and ore unexpectedly unexpected-ly struck in the new drain tunnel, conditions con-ditions at the Walker Mining company com-pany in California are excellent. Curtailment of production will surely sure-ly follow the drop in spelter prices if the present level be maintained, according ac-cording to the views of some of the largest smelter operators In the country, coun-try, says the Boston News Bureau. Shipments last week from the mines of Tintic totaled 191 carloads. These are estimated at 9,550 tons valued at $235,000. The production is compared with 140 carloads the previous week, or approximately an increase of 2,500 tons. The production of crude platinum in California and Oregon in 1915, according accord-ing to the United 'States Geological survey was 741.91 troy ounces, having a value o fabout $23,538, an increase of 171.91 ounces over the production in 1914. Excellent faces of ore are opening in the north workings of the Rochester Mines company, as the main achievement achieve-ment of the past week. In three new stopes they are breaking from three and a half to seven feet of ore running run-ning from $20 to $30. Utah in 1915 produced 3,108,715 tons of coal, valued at $4,916,916, according ac-cording to a report received from the United States geologist survey by J. E. Pettit, state mine Inspector. The report states that the Utah mines employed em-ployed 3,564 men and each worked an average of 208 days. At the Lost Packer mines and mill and smelter there are between 65 and 75 men employed, says the Hailey (Idaho) Times. Preparations are making to install a flotation process that will separate the values from the gangue, thus greatly reducing the weight of metal to be hauled to the railroad. Trying out of the new machinery in the Prince Consolidated plant at Pioche will be the order of the next few days. The mill will have a capacity ca-pacity of 200 tons. The dumps are said to contain 120,000 tons of $7.50 stuff. Without the mill the Prince present monthly profits are estimated at $30,000. James Mazua of Spokane, one of the large stockholders in the International Gold Mining & Milling company, reports re-ports a rich strike of twenty inches of gold ore on the Riverside fraction owned by that company in the Oro-grande Oro-grande district of central Idaho. The full width of the ore is said to run $100 to the ton. It is estimated that the Yampa property at Bingham, owned by the Tintic Mines & Development cora-any, cora-any, is producing about 400,000 -jounds of copper a month, giving jross earnings of approximately $125,-000 $125,-000 a month. The daily shipments are about 200 tons. The ore carries 3 to 4 per cent copper. There are three copper producers on the American continent 'Which can each show a net earning capacity of $10,000,000 or better on a sustained 25-cent copper market Anaconda, Kenneratt and Utah Copper says, the Boston News Bureau. In point of volume of output and profits these are America's Big Three in the copper producing industry. No others are in the same class. The owners of the claims report that they have recently shipped a car 'of ore averaging over sn per cent, the richest that they have had and the highest per cent found in such quanitv in that section of Utah. Alunite is tested by powdering the sample and moistening it with hydrochloric hydro-chloric arid. By means of the platinum plati-num loop, transfer a portion of the moistened powder to the finme, ignite and observe the color of the flame through the IWerwin color screen. If potassium is present the flame will ! appear a deep reddish violet. Supplies are being purchased and miners are being engaged by the J Mines Development Leasing company, which, within the next few days, will ! start mining lead-silver ore on claims located In Iron eo.in'y. l"t?.j. |
