Show Takes Up Assignment I'.y a recent decision of the state land board the 17,000 acres of state land about 15 miles southeast of Delta which has been under controversy for some time, and for which numerous applicants have applied will be sold to Frank 15. Stephens, holding hold-ing the assigned application of-the of-the E. D. Hashimoto company, a Japanese corporation. The Hashimoto application was one of tiie first received, but because be-cause of the issue created as to whether the state could sell land to alien the sale of the land was held up for several months and many other applicants appli-cants asked for the land. The attorney general ruled that inasmuch as Hashimoto had incorporated under the laws of Utah, the corporation became, in effect, a citizen of the state and was entitled to purchase land from the state. The Japanese company assigned its application to Frank H. Stephens, and after much controversy a majority of the land board voted to recognize recog-nize the assigned application, and then only after Stephens had given his word that he would not transfer the land to any alien or any corporation composed com-posed of aliens. At the meeting recently, it was decided that Stephen's bid was more advantageous than that of the other applicants and the land will be sold to him at $7.00 an acre. |
