MEXICANS ATTACK U. S. PATROL. One Trooper Killed and Two Wounded Wound-ed in Skirmish. Brownsville, Texas. About 100 Mexicans under cover of darkness Monday night forded the Rio Grande near Mercedes, about thirty miles up the river from here, and partly surrounded sur-rounded twenty-one men of the Twelfth United States cavalry. They killed one trooper and wounded two. For a time it was reported that the Mexicans were advancing on Mercedes, Mer-cedes, but at midnight all had disappeared. disap-peared. Soldiers and posses are searching the brush for them.
