Show MOB TAKES FRANK FROM PRISON FARM GUARDS OVERPOWERED AND GEORGIA CONVICT RUSHED AWAY IN AUTOMOBILE. Left Word That Body of Man Convicted Con-victed of Murder of Mary Phagan Would be Found on Grave of Murdered Girl. Milledgeville, Ca. A mob variously entimated at between twenty-five and eeventy-flve in number overpowered warden, superintendent and guards of the Georgia state prison farm near Jiere at 11 o'clock Monday night and quickly got Leo M. Krank and rushed htm away in an automobile. A prisoner said he heard a member of the mob say that Frank's body would be placed on the grave of Mary Phagan at Marietta. Frank was serving serv-ing a life term for the murder of the girl. Sheriffs' posses have been ordered out in all counties surrounding Baldwin Bald-win county, in which Milledgeville is located, in an effort to find Frank and the party which took him. Leo M. Frank was found guilty of the murder of Mary Phagan on August 25, 1913, and sentenced to be hanged. He was the superintendent of the National Na-tional Pencil factory in Atlanta, in the basement of which the girl's body was found by a night watchman on the night of April 25. A few weeks ago an attempt was made by J. William Creen, another life-term convict, to kill Frank by cutting cut-ting his throat. Frank's condition was eerious for some days, but it was announced an-nounced recently that he practically had recovered. |
