Editor Chronicle: i The Chronicle on the 12th Inst, has your statement concerning the water rights of the Abraham irrigation company com-pany which Is certainly Incorrect and damaging to the property rights of the Abraham Irrigation company, which, as a matter of fairness, you should be filling to correct. I have made a careful study of the Abraham rights and I find them good. The Abraham Irrigation company Is the principal Owner of the reservoir at Delta and has the right to control 1L Hut the Abraham people bold four-sevenths of tbe reservoir right in trust for the D-scret company. The Abraham Irrigation Ir-rigation company and the Descret company are entitled to two fillings of the reservoir, and the Abraham Irrigate Irriga-te company has enough water right In the river and In the reservoir, together to-gether to give each acre of the Abraham Abra-ham holdings a little more than two arre feet of water per acre, besides ojjher rights. These rights are all liflinary rights, and have the same standing as the Deseret right, both of which are good. The only way In wtlch the Deseret people may excel ie' because of their holdings In the big W'tervolr up the river which Is, of course, a later right, but If two acre feet per acre is enough, then the big reservoir doesn't figure, except In cure there be a shortage in the flow of the river. Instead of the Deseret , rnd Abraham companies being entitled tivonly three-sevenths of the flow of lt river, as per your statement, they r entitod'to, weai-ry-aH fth-tosf of the river, and those rights are pilmary rights, and subject to a few rights farther up the river that cut uu particular figure In the flow of the river, unlesa It be to Increase the flow by seepage. The error you fell into was natural, as your Informant was not fully posited on Abraham water rights. Hut as the statement Is a direct di-rect Injury to everyone who owns Abraham water, I hope you will treat them fairly and publish this statement. state-ment. Yours very truly, L. A. HOLLEXBECK, An owner In the Abraham rights. |
