Show FARMERS SHOULD HAVE PLAN Attention of Those Interested in Farming Farm-ing Should Be Called to the Necessity of Basis. The attention of the farmers and those interested in the farmers and In farming should be called to the necessity neces-sity of putting the farming business on a community or district basis states A. L. Paschall, farm adviser foi Cochise and Santa Cruz counties of the agricultural extension service University Uni-versity of Arizona college of agriculture, agricul-ture, and the U. S. departmen of agriculture. ag-riculture. Such a system is necessary for the standardization of products, the economical purchase of supplies and the efficient distribution and profitable prof-itable sale of products. In order to realize a profit from farming there are generally two important im-portant considerations other than the improvement of the farm unit: 1. Local Markets. There Is some complaint among the farmers that the local or nearby dealers deal-ers will not buy or handle their products. prod-ucts. In some cases this is perhaps justifiable. A better understanding and closer co-operation between the dealers, consumers and producers would be of advantage to all. However, How-ever, the consumers make certain demands de-mands of the dealers, and in order to supply these the dealers must know where they can get the supplies in sufficient quantities, of uniform quality qual-ity and as cheap as possible. For instance, in-stance, if a farmer brings in to a local lo-cal dealer a few sacks of red potatoes, pota-toes, when the dealer's customers want white potatoes, he should not expect the dealer to buy. Furthermore, Further-more, the dealer wants a regular dependable de-pendable supply of produce, so that he can meet the requirements of his customers at all times. The producer can meet the dealer's demands by studying the markets, organizing and co-operating to supply them. 2. Distant Markets. In order to develop the agricultural areas of , these counties and to find sale for the products other markets than the local ones must be considered. consid-ered. Howrever, in supplying these, practically the same requirements as those which apply to the local markets must be considered. The markets, soil and other local conditions must be studied. What can be produced profitably to ship in carload or train-load train-load lots? Let us get together and study this matter In a businesslike way. Let us know what you are producing, in what quantities, with what success or fail ure. We desire to make a detailed study of as many farms as possible, but we cannot reach them all in this way in a short time. By studying our soil, water supply and. other local conditions con-ditions and our successes or failures, and bringing these data together in a systematic manner, much can be accomplished ac-complished toward solving the problems prob-lems of making our farms pay. |
