Show Prohibition Coming We note by the Herald-Republican that Secretary of State, David Mattson has announced his belief that the state of Utah will be prohibition after next election. Mr. Mattson is a studeous man and- is no doubt pretty conversant.on the subject. We presume he will again be a candidate for office and we are informed that his is the most systematic and best regulated office in the state capital- Mr. Mattson is probably the most studious, painstaking and careful care-ful state official the state has ever ev-er had. When a young man he came into the full knowledge of the great responsibilities whicrf rested on the shoulders of a man who goes out into the world to battle for himself and serve his fellows, and while his heart was in the right place to do the world an immense amount of good he found himself woefully lacking in world's knowledge and education educa-tion and absolutely destitute of the su'Estance'which is -required to obtain an education in an easy' and leisurly manner. At the age of nineteen, when the full realization of the- necestity of an education dawned on him, it found him without funds and with barely enough learning to labouroursly cecipher an ordinary ordina-ry newspaper article. He pulled off his coat so to speak, (if he had one) and waded into the enormous task of making his living and acquiring an education educa-tion at the same time in half the length of time that the ordinary mortal has. He worked and studied night and day until now he stands as one of the most systematic, studious, sturdy and brightest men of Utah's sons. David Mattson has made good. Yes, made good in only a portion of the time that it takes the ordinary or-dinary man to do si, and drawn only from the resources contained contain-ed within himself. . , The bean contest at the Delta Furniture Store, was won by Mrs. Hamilton, who guessed 4595 and the No. of beans in the jar was 4591. There was scarcely scarce-ly any one fooled as badly as Mr. Miller in the No. of beans in the jar. The judges were, Mr. G. C. Calvert, Mr. John Workman and Mrs. V. C. Kantz. |
