Show States Reaches ' 13 Percent of Victory Loan Drive Locally To Get Underway this Week Utah's Victory Loan Drive got off to a flving start with $1,401,429 or 13 percent of the Sll, 000,000 "E" quota being subscribed during the first part of the week. The drive does not end until Dec. 8, leaving five weeks or 83 percent of the allotted time remaining re-maining to subscribe the S7percent balance of the quota. All counties were given added incentive for early and high attainment at-tainment of their "E" goals when state bond headquarters announced announc-ed four prize contests. First county to go over in "E" bonds will receive from the U. S. Navy a carrier based Navy fighter plane (to be flown in to Salt Lake). Second county over in E's will receive a 57 mm. antiaircraft gun. County attaining highest percentage percent-age of E quota will receive an Army Ar-my M5A1 tank. County showing biggest improvement improve-ment over E sales performance in the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh War Loans will receive a 57 mm. antiaircraft anti-aircraft gun. The awards will become permanent perma-nent memorials of the winning counties and no county can win more than one. Tooele county took the lead in the race for the Navy plane with 37 percent of its quota reached as of Nov. 5. Second was Davis county, coun-ty, 27 percent; Weber, the original challenger, and Morgan tied with 23, Salt Lake 14, and Grandl3. Locally the drive has not got into full swing, but canvassers and workers expect to be soliciting for sales of bonds within a short time. |
