Show Educational Trip . . . The Oak City School took an Educational trip to Salt Lake and Provo, Saturday, May 18th. The following students from the Oak City school and some of the nineth grade from Delta High School were among the twenty-five students present: Coleen Anderson, Maurine Anderson, Fred Anderson. Shirley Anderson, Johanna Alldredge, Leo Brunson, Hazel Christensen, Antone Christensen, Grant Christensen, Roland Ro-land Dutson, Howard Dutson, La Mae Finlinson, Julian Finlinson, Diane Di-ane Harris, Don Harris, Vonetta Jacobson, Brent Lovell, Monan Lo-vell, Lo-vell, Afton Lovell, Russell Mathews, Math-ews, James Mathews, Donna Mathews, Math-ews, De Von Roper, Emron Shee-han, Shee-han, Glenda Talbot, Merlene Lovell, Lov-ell, teacher; H. C. Bement, principal. princi-pal. Mr. Emery Dutson met with the students about 6:00 o'clock a. m. in front of the Oak City school. Our first stop was out side of Provo Pro-vo at the Columbia Steel, Mr. Bement Be-ment explained and pointed out interesting in-teresting views about the mill. Then as we went on we saw the Pacific Cast Iron Pipe Co. and the County Infirmary. When we arrived at Provo which was about 830, we went to the State Hospital and on to the upper campus of the B. Y. U. into the Joseph Smith and Brim-hall Brim-hall buildings. Here we met Mr. Valentine, who showed us three moving pictures, they were as follows. fol-lows. Killing the Killer, Piranha Fish of the Amazon, and Saving Fats by Walt Disney. On the road to Salt Lake we saw the Point of the mountain and the new State Penitentiary. When we arrived we went east on 21st. South to Sugar House and to the Old Penitentiary. Capt Dent, who is captain of the guards, showed us through part of the grounds. He pointed out the gardens which are planted, cultivated, culti-vated, and harvested by the prisoners. prison-ers. He also showed us the cannery; can-nery; here the prisoners canned a-bout a-bout 50.000 gal. of farmed products pro-ducts in 1945. After an interesting visit at the Penitentiary, we went to Hogle Gardens (zoo), and saw different animals there. After driving driv-ing through Fort Douglas and by the University of Utah, we drove through Eagle Gate and over to the State Capital. The Spring Flower Flo-wer Show was being held, which was a very beautiful sight. After leaving the Capitol, we went to the Hotel Utah and to Z. C. M. I. We then went to the Deseret News where a picture was taken of the students. We went to K. S. L. next, where a guide explained the different dif-ferent studios to us. After going through the Temple Grounds, we went out to the Airport. On our trip home we passed the Geneva Steel Plant, which is a beautiful and large sight. Among interesting places were the Holy Cross Hospital, the General Hospital, the Cathedral of Madeleine, Mad-eleine, St. Mary's Acadamy, and the Post Office. Everyone enjoyed the trip, although we were very tired after arriving home about 11: 00 p. m. |
