Show VICTORY GARDEN A Victory Garden, giving its owner fresh vegetables, vege-tables, things for the table, an aid that you and I and all farmers and rural peple can easily secure for themselves, will assist all who have one in their living. The idea is good. But, much of the mushy stuff that is being written about a Victory Garden is hashed up by some ghost writer who never saw a spade, never hoed a row of anything, and knows nothing more about gardening than a hog knows about calculus. He has space to fill, takes to his typewriter, and pecks that space full of words. The Victory Garden is all right. Fundamentally it is just the thing. And this writer hopes that many in and around this area will have a Victory Garden. If they think it isn't work, they are badly fooled. If they think what they raise is free, free from toil, backbreaking effort, and a war on bugs, lice, pests, then again they are badly fooled. It is all of that but worth it. Corn, peas, beans, carrots, tomatoes and a lot of other vegetables, can be successfully raised in this area, and by so raising them, supplement the food supply, and make frequent trips to the grocery unnecessary. un-necessary. By all means, yes, have a Victory Garden. Gar-den. Grow things. |
