Show Chatter Box Dear Suzy, There are two strange sights in town this week which are worth preserving for posterity. The first is the large number of Navajo in-dians in-dians about town with all of them wearing T-shirts with a picture of a rabbit on it and below that the wording "Delta Rabbits." I am won denng if the DHS alumni association associat-ion will incude them all in their roster of former Delta Rabbits The other sight worth recording is the removal of the water tank back of Joe Mercer's pill emporium ine tank has stood there for 25 years as a monument to thrift and savings. It seems that Joe was given the tank for saving cigar bands and empty boxes from patent medicene. When his volume of patent medicine grew to astronomical ast-ronomical figures the companies put up the water tank for him so he could make his own. Removing the water tank shows that Joe believes the waterworks system has come to stay. And too maybe the sale of patent medicine has fallen off. It seems that us women are poor pickers outers of Father's Day pre sents, and fail to give dad what he really needed instead of the gadget we thought was the ticket. tick-et. Take Eva Holt, for instance, she bought a pair of fishing boots for her husband, Owen, and gave them to him a few days early so that he could use them on the opening op-ening day of fishing. This Owen did, going to Leamington canyon to tease a trout. Owen was doing right nice and was wading along fishing in water close to the top of his boots. He got a little overconfident over-confident and waded a little recklessly reck-lessly and stepped into a hole that came up leaving just his eyes and pompadour above water line. Owen was right put out about the deal and now wants boots that come up a little higher, say just above his nostrils so that he can wade in peace and not always be fearing fear-ing a ducking. Helen Sampson Anderson is another an-other wife who gave a Father's Day present that looked as tho' she had made a poor choice. It seems she gave Morrey a new fish ing pole and all that can be hung onto on for catching fish. Like Eva, she gave the preselnt to Morrey Mor-rey a few days ahead of the actual act-ual date so he could use it for the opening day of fishing. Like Owen, Morrey did. He and Helen were tramping the sides of Oak Creek on the opening morning when they ran into Eb Stapley, local game warden. Now Eb is not a nice man to run into either on a stream or a side-walk as Eb tips the scales to a mighty figure, being built of steel and muscle. It seems that Morrey was a little lit-tle hasty using his new equipment and was out wagging it around a little too early to suit Mr. Stapley, so he promptly arrested Morrey and confiscated the outfit. Helen i could readily see that she had been wrong in giving Morrey the i i present early, as he was inclined toward using it early. Of course, Morrey says it was the fault of Bill Bishop that he got snapped off fishing early. It seems that Bill was timing the sec onds away for the official opening on his timepiece and cautioned Morrey, along with some small boys not to start as it was still too early. Bill said, "my watch has just been overhauled by Virgil Van, and is adjusted to a split second. Follow me and you will be right on the beam." According to Bill's watch they stepped into the stream and started at 5:00 a. m. only to be picked up an arrested because is was actually only 4:53 a. m. These seven minutes cost the fishermen $50 which is at rate of$7 17 per minute, which is slightly higher than the wages that John Lewis wants the coal miners to get. Mrs. .-Rah Johnson was another wife who slipped up in giving her spouse a Father's Day present. She should have given him an easy chair to sit in as he has always liked to sit and was found sitting beside Oak Creek a little in advance ad-vance of the official opening of the fishing season holding a fishing fish-ing pole. This sitting about cost him a piece of change which could have just as well been put into an easy chair for Rab and parked out under a tree at his homestead. This would have saved him the embarrassment of being found sitting sit-ting on the side of Oak Creek, and also the money involved therein. Pearl Snow didn't give Grant his Father's Day present until Sun day and then she gave him an alarm clock, but the present was about 30 hours late. Had she given it to him earlier Grant would have stayed out of the clutches of the law and would have kept his arrest ar-rest unblemished. Grant (Always In Hot Water) Snow was another unfortunate fisherman to have Eb put the finger on the opening mor ning. Grant had forgotten his his watch and was going by the stars to determine the time to start fishing. His reckoning was faulty, due probably to the altit ude, and he found himself being arrested by Eb (A Busy Morning) Stapley, and his fishing tackle going go-ing the same way Morrey Anderson's Ander-son's did. Grant had better take a refresher course in telling time by stars as it is rather costly to make an error, especially when starting to fish. I suppose they had better change the old saying about the early bird to be "The early bird gets arrested" ar-rested" instead of the worm. What do you think. Toots. |
