Show Chatter Box Dear Suzy, Oh what is so rare as a day in June? Especially this June 7 of Wednesday. After 24 hours of high wind from the south which moved 94,876 yards of dirt from the south to the north end of the county, it turned around, hailed, hail-ed, then snowed and followed that by a rain. If the sun comes out this afternoon and it freezes tonight, to-night, we will have completed all the elements of weather that can be foisted upon a poor and pitiful handfull of peope in these parts who are forced aUtime to hang to Mother Earth with clenched hands to keep from being blown away, and then frozen, rained and t snowed upon, with seldom a glimpse glim-pse of the sun and its warminu properties. It's an arduous life. The weather we have had here this spring has not even been fit for California. If we aren't freezing freez-ing we are sweltering, and if we aren't being rained upon we are being blown to bits with the added ad-ded insult of having gravel blown into our eyes, ears and mouth every time we take a walk in the open air. It will make us a hardy race, but who wants to be hardy if we have to put up with this all the time. Oak City, that thriving metropolis metrop-olis to our east is organizing its second ward which will soon be in operation with a complete quota of members and officers. Of course cou-rse the Oak City Second ward is not in Oak City, but it is made up of Oak City people which is about the same thing. It has all come about through the efforts of Warren Henderson who operates a store in Oak City His daughter, Jonel, converted one Teddy Nielson to the new ward where they are now living. Ted in turn converted his sister, Mrs. Leoyd Lovell, to the district where it is rummored that they have bought the lot south of Mr. Henderson Hend-erson and will build. Ted will build east of Alvin Bohn's as soon as he can find a couple of boards, and it is rumored that Verl Jacob-son Jacob-son has bought the Fondd Henrie lot and will put in a nursery .(trees shrubs and fowers only) on that lot. This makes quite a gathering of Oak City people in that neighborhood neigh-borhood and really justifies the ward being organized. Nels Bogh, who is building on the north side of the McCullough lot in the same block, and Fuzz Beckwith are the only two in the block who need to be converted, making it a unanimous Oak City Second ward. Fuzz is about three fourths Oak City now as he spent so many years fishing in Oak City canyon he is considered a native there. He will be a pushover, espec ially if he is on the bishopric. Nels wil be easy too, because Mel Roper is building his new house there, with all Oak City carpenters doing the work. With that infuence Nels is as good as in the ward now, and contributing contribut-ing to the building fund. So when Harold, Ward and Warren War-ren meet again in one of their stake presidency meetings they will, no doubt, recognize the new ward and sustain the officers. They can use the Daughters of Utah Pioneers house as their first chapel until they get big enough to build their own, and besides the house is big enough at present, to hold them all. I am glad to see Oak City expanding ex-panding this way and congratulate them on their growth. Now they can explain their two wards as the First being all of Oak City or, tho Semnd ward being all of Block 81 in Delta. Now Clyde Underhill local meat dealer at the Quality Market knows how a steak feels when it goes through the cubing machine, because this week Clyde sent his finger through the same machine. Clyde says it was all the fault of the Livestock show meat they were selling there this week. He said he got to looking at that meat there now while he is recu-much recu-much he couldn't keep his mind on his business and that is the reason his finger got clipped up. Well he won't being weighing his hand for a few weeks so you can probably get a good buy on meat there iow while he is recuperating recu-perating and playing Canasta with Etta. Toots. |
