The conference confer-ence centered around the problems prob-lems of youth, and the youthful youth-ful members were exhorted to live, up to highest ideals. RECORD CROWD One of the largest crowds ever to attend a session of quarterly conference in Deseret Stake were in attendance at the morning session ses-sion Sunday morning to hear Bishop Bish-op LeGrand Richards deliver words of encouragement and advice. By actual acount 1100 people crowded crowd-ed into the Palomar hall. A new sound system valued at $650. was just purchased by the stake and was used for the first time and the crowd was able to hear equally well in all parts of the hall. Bishop Richards directed the majority ma-jority of his remarks to the youth of the church who were seated in a reserved section. He encouraged encourag-ed leaders to give the boys and girls a chance to do the singing, praying, and preaching.: The two great factors which determine what individuals will amount to are the church and home,, he expressed. ex-pressed. Pearl Snow talked on "How can I strengthen my relationship with my daughter". Virginia Henrie talked on "How can I strengthen my relationship with my mother". Clare Stephensen, who has just recently been sustained as chairman chair-man of the Stake LDS Girls com- mittee was called on for a few I remarks, followed by Homer Christ ensen,t who has recently returned from fulfilling a mission for the church in the Hawaiian Islands. Music for the morning session was furnished by Deseret Stake Singing Mothers sponsored by the stake Relief Society and directed by Ladd R. Cropper, stake chorister They sang "The Morning Breaks" and "Open the Gates of the Temple". Tem-ple". The Singing Mothers drew mucn iavorame comment not only on their melodious singing but on the impressive picture they made all dressed uniformly in white blouses and dark skirts. 136 members mem-bers participated. A male chorus from the Hinckley Hinck-ley Seminary furnished a number. They were Ronald Nielson, Duane Moody, Duane Stewart and June Hepworth. ' Accompanist was May G. Cropper, who also accompanied the Singing Mothers. The opening prayer of the morning morn-ing session was offered by Lamon Robins of the Delta First ward and the closing prayer was offered offer-ed by Anna Lou Dewsnup of the Deseret ward. President M. Ward Moody conducted con-ducted the afternoon session. The meeting opened with the Singing Mothers singing "The Lord is My Shepherd." The prayer was offered offer-ed by Don Greathouse of the Lynn dyl ward. The Singing Mothers then sane "God Painted a Picture" Eldon Tanner of the Hinckley ward was the first speaker talking talk-ing on "The Blessings of Ward Teaching". Verdon Davis of the Deseret ward talked on "Repentance". "Repent-ance". Barth Black of the Delta First ward gave a talk on "Gaining "Gain-ing a Testimony of the Gospel", which was followed by a talk on "Testimony" by Marilyn Callister of the Delta Third Ward. Warren Jensen, recently returned return-ed from fulfilling a mission in the Central Pacific reported his mission. mis-sion. He was followed by Jay Gard ner, who has just returned from the Canadian mission field. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Abbott who both labored in the California mission, mis-sion, were called on to report their mission. A few remarks were made by President Warren Henderson and President Moody and then the remainder re-mainder of the time was taken by Bishop Richards. The closing song was "King of Glory" by the Singing Mothers and the closing prayer was by Maurine Anderson of the Oak City ward. The evening session was under the direction of the stake M. I. A. and was conducted by stake activity act-ivity counselor Willard Stephensen The program was centered around the MIA theme and was treated by High couneilmen Verdell Bishop Bish-op talking on "Clean Living" and M-Men stake leader Darrell Lott talking on "Love, Marriage and You" - - the course of study outlined out-lined for the M-Men and Gleaners this year. Mrs. Martha Mace, stake speech director for the YWMIA gave a talk on the theme and led the congregation in it. Musical numbers num-bers consisted of community singing sing-ing led by stake music director E-van E-van Christensen with stake organist organ-ist Ruth Talbot accompaning. Mel-ba Mel-ba Western sang "Bless This House" Hou-se" and Ruth Talbot accompanied her. A trumphet duet was given by Harold Snow and David Seeg-miller Seeg-miller with Mrs. Snow accompanist. accompan-ist. The remainder of the program was spent in testimony bearing.
