UNIFORMS TO 8E FURNISHED BY GOVERNMENT All male students at tho Utah Agricultural collogo are to bo furnished furn-ished with complete uniforms by the war department, according to a telegram tele-gram Just received by tho Institution from AdJutantGencral McCain. Theso uniforms are to bo furnished U. A. C. cadets because tho student batalllon was last year organized as a unit of tho senior division of the Itcsorvo Officers' Training corps. Captain Stephen Abbot, recently detailed de-tailed for duty as commandant at tho Institution, states that according to Adjutant General McCain's Instructions, Instruc-tions, uniforms will bo Immediately available for students In tho R. O. T. C. Detailed Instructions as to tho manner ot procuring theso uniforms will soon be Issued by tho quartermaster quarter-master general of tho army. Tho uniforms will bo considered the property pro-perty of the government for ono school year from the dato of their Issue. In accordanco with sections 45 and 1G of General Orders number 49, tin articles tarnished freo by the war department de-partment will bo as follows: One pair of ollvo drab breeches, one ollva drab cap, ono ollvo drab coat, one pair of canvas leggings, one set ot cap and collar ornaments, and one pair of russet shoes. When tho Individual In-dividual members of the unit have agreed In writing td participate In such camps of Instruction, as ' the secretary of war shall prescribe, thcro will bo Issued tho following additional uniforms: Ono service hat, ono hat cord, two pairs olive drab breeches, and two ollvo drab flannel shirts. As Indicated In tho abovo assignments assign-ments of clothing, there aro two sections sec-tions to each unit of tho senior division di-vision of tho R. O. T. C. In the senior sen-ior division, four years of military work must bo offered. This division divis-ion Is established only at colleges or universities offering a collegiate degree, de-gree, and at certain specially inspected inspect-ed military academics. Any member ot tho senior division who has completed com-pleted two academic years of service In that division, who has been selected se-lected for further military training by tho president ot tho Institution and tho professor of military science and tactics, and who agrees In writing writ-ing to continue military work through tho remaindor of his college course, will bo entitled to tho additional uniform uni-form equipment described abovo and also to commutation of subsistence which amounts to nbout nlno dollars a month. Upon graduation theso students will bo ellglblo for appointment appoint-ment by tho President ot tho United States, as rescrvo offlcors of tho army, and, If so appointed, they may bo appointed and commissioned as tomporary second nontenants In tho regular army for a period of six months, with pay at tho rate of ono hundred dollars a month, with thc usual allowances. Upon tho expira- tlon of such service with tho regular army each student will revert to his status as a reserve officer. Tho primary object of establishing units of tho Rescrvo Officers' Training Train-ing corps Is to qualify, by systematic system-atic and standard mothods of training, train-ing, students of civil educational Institutions In-stitutions for reserve officers. The syst'em of Instruction presents to theso students a standardized measure meas-ure of that military training which Is necossary In order to prepare them to perform Intelligently tho duties of commissioned officers in tho military forces of tho United States, and It onables them to bo thus trained with tho least practicable Interferenco with their civil careers. It offers to tho student a wonderful opportunity to proparo for patriotic service, and to secure, at tho samo time, excellent physical development. |
