A bull nsfcocla-tlou nsfcocla-tlou has been organized, and three registered Jersey bulls havo already ' been bought In, mid have placed one on the Gem JorBoy farm, ono on tho' Albert Savage farm. The association ' intends to bring In a few more bulls before the end of tho year. Stringent measures uro being adopted by tho association in regard to breeding, bo as to insure great Improvement in tho herds. It is certainly u step in the right direction. Wo sincerely hope that all tho dairy peoplo of our town will Join in. There is no reason rea-son why Ilyrum should not become as famous for her Jerseys aa Richmond Rich-mond has become for her Holstelns. But while wo havo our eyes on tho great improvement of our dairy herds here, wo havo to say a word of praise to tho Blieep business. On tho 13th of this month, Mr. T. W. Peterson of this city shipped two carloads of spring lambs from tho Ilyrum station sta-tion to tho St. Jose, Mo., market, and on tho 19th Mr. Peterson received a telegram that tho lambs Hold at $18.00 a hundred. Tho average weight was G7 pounds, bringing an average price of $11.95 per head, tho highest prlco ever paid for spring lambs in tho St. J oho market. I Mrs. F. N. Llljenqulst recontly re-' eclved a letter from her son, Clove. The letter was written on tho high seas aboard a transport enrouto to Franco. Tho transport left the U. S. August 17, and press dispatches Btatod they landed August 29. Clovo is tho first Ilyrum boy with tho U. S. I army in Fiance. Ho enlisted last I May and has been training In tho aviation corps at Fort Sam Houston, I Texas. I Harold Gill, another Ilyrum boy I who Is also In the aviation corps and i training at Montreal, Canada, expects' to sail for Franco In tho near future. ' Phillip Maness, tho first volunteer from Ilyrum, has been writing liomoi from Hawaii. i Mr. Harold Llljenqulst arrived ( homo last Thursday evening from tho naval station at San Diego, Cal. Harold Har-old says ho has gained twenty pounds slnco ho enlisted last spring and his looks attest his word. Tho military training seems to ngrco with him at-1 right. Mr. Georo Hansen was in troiiii Maiad for a short visit with rolutlca' and frelnds, last week. Mr. Hansen is ono of our bluo Jackets and has been homo on a leave, of abscuco from San Diego, Cal. Tho Troop II boys from Ilyrum, Mr. Axlo Nielsen, Mr. Virgil Mldgloy and Mr. Lionel Jensen, paid parents and friends in Ilyrum a short visit last week boforo leaving for tho traln-lmr traln-lmr camn. Mr. W. S. Williams of Brlgham City was a Hyrum visitor last week. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Huttou wont to Salt Lako last Thursday, returning return-ing Thursday evening. Mr. Albert J. Williams loft for Idaho and Montana tho foro part of last week to mako an extended visit with relatives and friends at different differ-ent points in tho two states. j A social and program was given In honor of tho Third ward Beehive girls at tho conclusion of tholr summer's sum-mer's work, last Thursday evening at tho Third ward mooting house. First a program, consisting of demonstrations dem-onstrations of Beohlvo work, was rondored to show tho mothers what tho organization is doing. Aftor tho program, refreshments woro served and a real social tlrao was enjoyed by all. |
