Show INCREASED SUC1AH 11KKT ACHKACi: IMPORTANT Washington, D. C. In view of tho sugar situation, both domestic and foreign, It Is advisable to Increase tho beet BUgar output In tho United States this year as far as tho seed supply and tho farm nnd factory conditions con-ditions will permit. The indications nro that In many portions of tho area devoted to BUgar beets In this country coun-try tho ncrengo this year will exceed thnt of any previous year and will be In many cases limited only by tho amount of seed now available. In other localities, It Is understood that there Is considerable beet seed which is being hold In reserve for next year's planting In accordance with the the usual practice. Under tho existing ex-isting conditions In thU country and Europe, It mny bo advisable, says the United States department of agriculture, agri-culture, to utlllzo nt least a portion of thU reservo seed In thoso localities locali-ties In which tho farming and factory fac-tory conditions will permit tho handling handl-ing of n larger acreago than has nt present been contracted for. Sugar, an Important food In tlm.i of peace, 1b doubly so In time of war, both because of tho energy contained In a pound of sugar ns compared with a pound of other foods nnd becnuso the conduct of modern warfare baa developed mnny additional uses for BUgar. Thcreforo the sugar companies compan-ies and farmers of this country would be performing a patriotic duty by Increasing the sugar output so far as practicable this season. Undoubtedly considerable Increase In sugar beet acreage could bo brought about In some localities without interfering Villi the production produc-tion of other crops. In tho sugar beet growing states, except California Califor-nia (where the crop Is already planted nnd growing), many fanners who have contracted to grow bcota can undoubtedly Increase their acro-1 acro-1 ngo somewhnt. Mnny farmers In tho sugar beet nrenB who buyo not yet 'contracted to grow sugar beets could I undoubtedly plant a smalf ncrcago, thoreby still further Increasing tho I sugar production. Owing to tho fact .that sugar beets can be produced to ladvantngo for sugar making pur-Jpoaes pur-Jpoaes only In those areas whoro sugar mills arc located, the areas In which they can be grown for sugar production produc-tion are limited as compared with tho larger areas that aro or may bo ', ' devoted to the production of. other ll i Tho sugar beot by-products, tops H nnd pulp, nro of high vnluo for stock i feeding purposes. Arrangements should bo made, therefore, to utlllzo 'H tho sugar beot by-products as an aid l:H in producing an extra supply of meat i!H nnd dnlry products. Every pound of t'il beet tops or pulp utilized for stock 'H feed save a certain amount of grain H and other feed required for meat and H dairy animals, or will Increase tho H moat and meat products output If 'H properly used.
