Truthful statements state-ments and advertisements along theso lines will get1 tho business In tho future. A few years ago two laundries ht Logan, Utah, were struggling for existence, neither paying dividends to Its stockholders. The first class laundries, ol) Salt Lka 'city were getting most of the Logan business. The unfortunate laundry ownors of Logan could see that they wero going go-ing to lose overy dollar that thoy had and called upon their friends for help. It was decided to consolidate the two old laundry companies and placo them under ono roof. Lawyers, doctors, merchants, bankers and bust- uess men of all classes took stock In IBBBBBbI the new American Steam Laundry. Boys and girls from some of tho best families In tho city wero urged to como to work In this new, up to dnto fgfgfgfgfgfJ laundry. Expert laundrymen were H engaged to teach tho boys and girls tho laundry business. After Bovoral years of experience ) tho board of directors discovered that jH tho laundry wag educating boys and girls for high positions In llfo. One H young manf who had commenced at ffVfVfVfffV tho bottom, was developing Into a H manager. Gcorgo W. Squires had H Bhown more tact and moro Interest B In tho welfaro of tho business than anyone otso, and for this reason was 'bBBBBBBH selected as manager. A small lib- fH rnry was placed In the laundry and BBBBBBBll tho foundation for tho employes' ed- ll ucntlon whs lntd. Short meetings, RbBBBBH wero held with tho employes on tho BBBBBBBH company's time, whcro all subjects PBBBI pertaining to laundry business wero H discussed. All nre given a chanco to step to higher places of responsibility, responsi-bility, whenover they merit that advancement. ad-vancement. Through this system of education wo have young men who are capable and who have managed the business successfully for weeks at a time, during the absence of our' manager. Besides paying good wages, tho company arranges and pays for em ployes excursions, picnic parties and other entertainments. After some of the trips the boys and glrfs are! taught that it is very unjust to neg-1 ect or rob the company by failing to give tho best service that tbey.i can. Therefore, to have a poor piece of work returned to thorn Is very embarrassing, em-barrassing, as they! know that it shows a loss of time, energy nnd monoy. We have no trouble in securing se-curing help. Usually a great number of persons desiring positions aro on. tho waiting list. Girls usually stay with us until they marry; young men stay after they marry- No one now can secure a position ht the laundry without showing signs of energy and character. Parents appreciate this fact, and seek employment for their boys and girls at this place. They know the value of a school or system sys-tem that develops and builds char- acter. Tho laundry has always paid good dividends to its stockholders and will be In a now, up to dato building of its own in the near future. Competition Compe-tition does not worry its owners, be causo it does first class work, pay all Just claims (of which thero are not many) and Is at peaco with its customers . A host of friends in business ' safer and hotter than Are insurance. We oxpect to keep our good works beforo the peoplo and hope all those who nro not following better systems than ours will follow us. |
