Show Historic Clontarf. Clontarf Is one of the most historic spots In Ireland. It was there that, on Good Friday, April 23, lOlf, Brian Boru nnd the men of Munster, Con-naught Con-naught and Meath fought the Danes. Brian was killed In his tent; Sigurd, Earl of Orkney and Caithness, perished per-ished also, and 11,000 Irishmen and , 13,000 Danes aro said to have fallen. Victory remained with the Irish, but tho Danes reoccupled Dublin. In modern times O'Connell's monster mon-ster meetings for Repeal were to have culminated at Clontarf. But the meeting meet-ing was prohibited by the government, and O'Connell was put upon his trial for conspiracy and convicted, though the verdict was eventually reversed by the house ot lords. |
