If such conditions condit-ions were true if there was one iota of truth In these wholsale' charges against the big business Interests la the United States-; we may as well mnko up our minds that American Ideals liavo gono. by the- board and our chanco3 for dofoatlng Germany aro mighty nllm, for without tho solid support of producing buslnoss concerns tho right arm of our. government gov-ernment would bo materially weakened. weak-ened. The worst thing that could happen this country to day-and It is tho ono thing that the agents, of Germany are trying to promote-would be to encourage class harted against tho owners of our railroads our mines, our sugar factories and like institutions in-stitutions that are turing every wheel to keep business going In the United States and at the same time supply the urgent demands of the allied nations. 'COXSEKVATION OF EDUCATION I N V Western states aro making a mistake mis-take trying to rival older and weal-1 thler eastrn states in expanding I higher education. I Universities are luxuries that each I stato must support, but It Is not' good educational economy to turn ' out too many professionals, Wealthy peoplo who can afford ' to give their children classical or professional education should be1 made to pay for it as a luxury. Uut to multiply this luxury indefinitely in-definitely at public expense Is not good policy, for all professionals have to bo supported by others. In the same way public schools should not be keyed up to turn out all book-keepers and stenographers, accountants and salesman. Boys and girls who aro given" a start as mechanics in wood or metal working, electricians, 'dressmakers, or culinary artists wll get along. To turn them all out of public schools ambitious for soft-handed public Jobs or to make their living by their wits is a mistake. There aro aot enough professional Jobs, to go around and enough places at the public crib to put thea all oa salaries. The agricultural colleges are turning turn-ing out about 75 pre eeat of persons who fill professional posiUons if theyget any Job at all. The country aeeds more producers potato raisers, cattle growers, truck gardeaers, dairymen-real cow milkers, milk-ers, aot milk pasteurisers. Tho country la topneavy with a frightful expense for multiplying professional glasses land the field for them is limited. r CEXSVIISBt, FOR DELAY IN.tittfc PXGIIMnriBtOREASE.
