Show "DINNER" A BIO SUCCESS "We have a big Job to win this war and it will take all ot us all our time," declared Mr. John D. Spencer, Spen-cer, at the Commercial Boosters Club dinner in its new banquet hall Tuesday Tues-day evening. He said the reason the United States Is where it is today in Influence, wealth, etc., is because tho men and women of the past have done more than their share. It Is up to every one ot us to do at least our share in this great struggle and this is no time to say that we are getting tired of the demands that are being made of us. Mr. Spencer referred to the noble work being done by Harry Lauder, the famous comedian, in getting the people of this country to get the correct point ot view and to sense more fully what tho war Is and what It means. He made a very strong appeal for the support ot the Red Cross as it is the greatest relief re-lief society In the world. Mr. Spencer was scheduled tor a business talk, but as the entire dinner din-ner was carried out with a patriotic effect, ho made his speech conform to tho spirit ot the occasion and It was very much appreciated. One hundred and sixteen members and guests were present and without with-out one exception so tar, it was declared de-clared to be the best dinner that tho Club has' had. For the success ot the dinner much credit Is due Mr. O. W. Cooley and his force who had supervision of the food and serving; also Mr. A. D. Bell, chairman of the Entertainment Committee; Mr. O. G. Cardon of the Bluebird; W. F. Jen-son Jen-son Candy Company, and.-tho Royal Bakery. These firms and people ln addition to others contributed much to the success of the affair. Beautiful display dis-play of flowers mado by Ola Larson was very notlccablo and much admired. ad-mired. President Xi. R. Owen ncted ns chairman. Ho spoke ot the activities of tho Club and showod why every progrecslve citizen In the county and city should bo a member. At the close of the dinner, ten applications for membership wero taken. For tho remainder ot the evening tho members onjoyed themselves with billiards and cards. A number of tho members did not attend as they did not make reservations res-ervations for plates soon enough. Thn committee would appreciate If tho members In tho fut'uro would mako tholr reservations early and In cpso soma cannot attend that thsy cancel their orders In tlmo enough so others oth-ers may take their places. |
