A. 0. STUDENT WINS MEDAL W. Heber Jones of Santaquln, a Freshman at the Utah Agricultural College, won the Hendricks medal offered at the Institution oach year for the beat- extempore speaking at the annual contest held last Tuesday Tues-day at regular chapel exercises. Mr. Jones talked on Strikes In War Times. 'An Interesting feature ot th? contest was that audience as well as subjects were assigned. Three hours before the contest was to be held a list of subjects, each to be delivered before a specified audience, was posted. From this list the contestants contest-ants made their choices. Five qualified quali-fied for the final contest In preliminary prelim-inary tryouts held at tho Institution last Friday. Those contesting with subjects selected, were as follows: W. Heber Jones, Strikes In War Times, before be-fore the Brotherhood ot Carpenters, Atlantic Shipbuilding Association; George Hanson, same subject and audience; Ira Ovlatt, Religion, before i an audience of cowboys; C. J. Hart, same subject and audience; Victor Ia-raelson, Ia-raelson, Obsolete Dogma, before a Ministerial Convention. Each contestant had eight minutes In which to develop his subject. The judges were Professor N. A. Pederson, Peder-son, Sara Huntsman, and A. H. Sox-fir, Sox-fir, of the Utah Agricultural College, Rev. Mr. Lewis of Logan, and Attorney At-torney A. E. Bowon of Logan? |
