A serious accident occurred in Providence Prov-idence hay fields on, Wednesday afternoon. after-noon. Joseph Postal Jr., aged 10 years, was riding on a load of hay, and his younger brother, about ten years old, rode up behind on a horse with a 22 rllle. Not knowing It was cocked he handed it to his brother, muzzle foremost. The rifle was discharged and tho bullet pierced the body of the former one and a half Inches below tho apex of the heart, tho bullet lodging in tho body. Medical assistance was promptly called. The condition of tho young man Is as favorable as could be expected. At 2:30 Thursday afternoon, Justice Smith said the words that made ono of John Andrews "and Alice Naylor, tho young couple which has had some unpleasant notoriety during tho past few weeks. Tills see ms to be a fairly satisfactory conclusion to a case that gave promise of proving awkward for young Andrews. Next Wednesday the Germans of Cacho county arc going to have a grand celebration at Johnson's grove, South of Logan. There Is to be an all day's program calculated to furnish no end of pleasure and amusement and In tho evening thero will be a dance and display of fireworks. Tho Germans arc a great Jolly lot when they get together and there Is no doubt but that the day will be highly enjoyable. .There is to be a big parade at nine o'clock, starting from the German meeting house Ih tho Fourth ward and headed by the Providence band. The maneuvers arc considered worthy of the attention of distinguished military men throughout through-out this country and even among foreign for-eign military otllcers tho program has proved of sulllclent Interest to attract. On this occasion its natural advantages were enhanced bymyralds of colored electric lights entwined 'round and through tho foliage throughout the grounds, together with Japaneso lanterns In profusion. Beds of fiowors in full blossom dotted tho lawn here and there, shrubbery cast inviting shadows, music lent its glamour and the enchanting drcam-llke appearance of the entire occasion was such as to lead ono into a contemplation as to whether fairyland could oiler anything any-thing more tempting. Logan's beauty, wit, elegtinco and wealth were there, tho guests numbering, more than two hundred, and among these aro to be Included a number of guests from other cities of the state, Tho ladles elegantly or daintily costumed, as they passed from light to shadow, smiling, gracious, always charming added t" the brilliancy of the occasion, and vied with nature's beauties for first plaoo In admiration. The guests engaged in such social amusements as appealed to them. Card tables and games were In evidence everywhere, the Jcppson orchrstra furnished music and dancing was indulged In; a booth at which delicious punch was served by little Miss Benson proved popular, and not less so was the bower from which Ice cream and cake was offered. The Ellason home Is Itself a model of elegance, and many spent their time inspecting and enjoying Its beauties. Until a late uour the ladles and gentleman enjoyed the pleasant sociability that the occasion offered, and many were the hearty and sin-ccro sin-ccro expressions of delight at tho perfection per-fection of the grounds and arrangements arrange-ments for the comfort and pleasure of the largo number present. The Misses Miss-es Ellason occupy a warm spot In the hearts of a host of admirers and friends, and as hostesses on thjs occasion oc-casion added a rose to the crown which merit had already awarded them. |
