Show As to Opticians. The necessity of parents being careful care-ful in the selection of opticians is frequently fre-quently evidenced, but not more strongly than In a little story told us by Alexander the other day. The child's name was not mentioned, nor did we learn from Alexander the name of the optician who fitted glasses for the child, hence our recital of the matter can hardly be considered an attack. Alexander told It, he was called In to examlnca little girl of a family In Logan whose finances are not at the top notch. Hoth eyes of the girl weie affected, and ho held before be-fore licr the test card containing letters let-ters of different size. One of these letters Is probably 4x4 and Mr. Alexander Alex-ander was more than surpilscd that with one eye the little girl was unable un-able to tell what that letter was at a distance of four feet. He examined the eye, came to the conclusion that piopcr glasses would hclpthodllllculty andarterexerimentatlon placed over that eye a combination or lenses that enabled the little girl to lead letters four or live sizes smaller at a distance of ten rect. The optician who had fitted tho girl before whoever he may have been, stated that this particular could not be made to do service, so he placed before it a glass of practically ordinary strength. Mistakes occur even with the best piofcsslonal men, but If this optician simply took advantage of the little girl and family, or if ignorance or caic-lessness caic-lessness entered into this failure, it Is to be regretted. Mr. Alexander was not talking for publication at the time and his vvoids may bo accepted at their face value. |
