Show SMOKEHOUSE IN A BARREL. Homemade Contrivance That Will Give Good Results. M. W. T. Pleaso publish a description descrip-tion of a small, cheap smokehouse, suitable for a farmer to smoko n fow hams, etc. A largo cask or barrel may bo used for smoking a small quantity of meat. To mako this effective, a small pit should be dug, and a flat Btono or a brick placed across It, upon which tho edgo of tho cask will rest. Half tho pit Is beneath tho barrel nnd half Is outside. Tho head and bottom may bo removed, or a holo can bo cut In tho bottom a littlo larger than tho portion of tho pit beneath tho cask. Tho head or cover Is removed whllo tho hams aro being hung upon cross sticks, as shown in tho Illustration. Tho cross sticks rest upon two cross bars mado to pnss through holc3 bored In tho sides of tho cask. The head is then laid upon tho cask and covered with moist sacks to confine tho smoke. Llvo coals aro put Into tho pit outsldo of tho cask, nnd tho flro Is fed with damp corn cobs, hardwood chips, or Barrel Smoke House, flno brush. Tho pit Is covered with a flat stono by which tho flro may be regulated, and It Is removed when necessary to add moro fuel. Montreal Herald. |
