Show BRIGHAM'S PEACH I DAY A SUCCESS Several Hundred Visitors H from Cache County. H Logan Husbands find H Peaches of fine flavor. H The annual peach day held at H Brlgham on Thursday was attended H by thousands of people. Five pas- H sengrr coaches went out of Cache H Vallcv and twenty came up from Salt H Lake and Ogden loaded to their full H capacity. The town was extensively H decorated with bunting of green and H jellow, thoso being the colois dcslg- H nated. Free peaches were given the H people, the quality not, equaling that of last year. Tho main features of the day's program was tho baseball H game between tho Vincent-Notts of H Salt Lake and Brlgham City team. H Hcusser brothers represented the H battery for tho latter team. Tho H game was won by Salt Lake, scoro H o to H Tho band contest was called at 7:.'l0 H p. in. in tho tabernacle. There was H a fair attendance considering tho in- H clement weather and thero being two dances in tho town. There were live M bauds played In the contest. Wells- H vlllc baud entered as class A. Gar- H land, Bear iliver city, Mantua, Coal- M ville of Summit entered In class B. M The judges wero John Held, L. P. M Christensen and W. 11. Flashmau, of M Salt Lake city. Tho class B. bands M played the same selection. Tho M prl.e of $50.00 was awarded to tho M Mantua band they securing 1H7 M points out of a possible -40. Garland M made l&l, Bear River city 1:10, Coal- H vllle of Summit county loo. As there M were no competitors against the H Wcllsvllle baud, they were compelled H to play for points, they made lil'J H points nut of 210 which gave them the H llrstprl.e of $100.00. Tho Smlthlleld H band had entered to play In class A. H but thiougli some misunderstand- M Ing withdrew, which was a great dis- H appointment to those present for ttio H Smlthlleld band discoursed some H very line music during tho day H which was highly appreciated H and tho people desired to see H them contest for the prl.e. At tho H opening of the contest F. W. Fishburn H mado an appropriate little speech ex- H tending welcome to thoso present, H and trusting that tho contest would H be conducted hi a friendly spirit and H conducive of good. Tho Judges In H rendering their decisions did so with H much precision, showing up tho good H points that were noticeable by those H having the least conception of music. H The decision was universally accepted H as being just, and proved that tho H Judges understood their position H thoroughly. Professor Held expressed H surprise as to tho excellent quality of H music played by all, at tho samo timo H criticisms were given where, needed, H but done in such a kind manner that H all tho players accepted them with M appreciation. Professor Held paid H Samuel B. Mltton, the leader of the H Wcllsvllle band a very high compll- H mentasa leader In music. The dances H In tho opera house and pavilion wero M packed. Tho music or the dancing H floors were not equal to those In Logan. B A special was run south at 10::i0 p. H m. and ono north at 12 p. m. A jolly M crowd went fiom Logan who had all M the fun that was in It. Many married H men left their wives at homeand went M ostensibly for Brlgham peaches. They M found them at the ball, but deemed H It best not to bring them home. M |
