Show President Llnford returned home Tuesday night of last week from the east, after an absence of about three weeks. He Is looking and feeling line, and reports having had a very excellent time. President Llnford went from here direct to Chicago, where he stopped for a short time and visited tlie mlsslonaiy hcadquaiters. He met several foimcr students of the college who weie successfully laboilng In that part. He also visited the University Uni-versity of Chicago From there he went to Cleveland and thcic attended several Important meetings at tlie Inauguration In-auguration of Charles Howe as piesl-dent piesl-dent of the Case School of Applied Science. The Case School Is a technical techni-cal school of high standing. In Clove-land Clove-land President Llnfoid met many of the leading educators of the United States. He and Prof. Eocle of the Univeisltyof California were, how-eer, how-eer, the only men from west of the Rockies present at the meetings. While at Cleveland President Llnford went out toKlrtland and visited the old temple, going thiough it from cellar cel-lar to belfry. He was very courteously courteous-ly lecelved by Mr. Devoic, who was in charge of the place. He alo visited the old homesteads of the Prophets Joseph and Hyrum.of Rrlgham Young and Sidney Rlgdon. HcOicn went to New Yoik, spent a shoit time there, and returned to St. Louis, where he spent live days visiting the fair. While things aie not nearly completed at the great fair, yet it is a magnificent monument to the magnitude of the world. From St. Louis President Llnford went to Kansas City and Independence. In-dependence. He visited the Sunday schools in these places and says the Saints and Eiders there are feeling much encouraged in their labors. Kv-etywherc Kv-etywherc he was leceived with coui-tcsy coui-tcsy and made many friends. He answered an-swered many questions legauling "Moimonism" and conditions of affairs af-fairs in Utah. He says that the educated edu-cated men aie very liberal in their views towaid the " Mormon " people, and they are especially interested in our educational efforts. The Smoot case has caused many to Investigate us, and one man in Kansas City told President Llnfoid that It was the Smoot case which caused him to investigate in-vestigate "Mormonlsm" and thus find out the truth and become convened con-vened to the Gospel and join the Chinch. In all, President Llnford's trip was an extremely pleasant and profitable affair. News. |
