B Dr. rhllips of Wcllsvlllo is back m again into the Republican ranks after M a short trial with our Democratic m ' brcthcrn. It's too tough a proposl- z tion even for a physician to stand. H The city schools opened Monday B morning and by this time pupils arc J saying to themselves: "So many weeks VJ until Tlianksgiving, and then not long until Christmas two weeks holidays. Then comes Washington's birthday, a few more weeks of school and then fl wo'rc out again." A school term doesn't seem long when you know how I, to figure properly. In Logan at the present time there arc very few idlers. In fact there is BVfl an absolute scarcity of men in many SI lines of work. If you want something done the chances arc that the man whom you ask to do it, will tell you lie VI hasn't time. But you can find men all over the county that can tell you H how it should be done, and have the time to tell It, too. Anywhere you go B you will find it vastly easier to get a H ' man to tell you how a thing ought to PHBV J be done than to ilnd a man to do it. H ( Robert Murdock, Jr. Is having a fine 1 , new sideboard placed in his "Kandy B. Kitchen," and other improvements PHHH arc being made that add to its already PHHH pleasing appearance Just at the pre- PbBV sentRoblssulTeringfromthcrcopening PBhS ' of a wound caused by the explosion PHBS ! , of a soda tank sometime ago. When PHBV j. the Injury was ilrst sewed up portions 1 X his clothing were not properly re- J moved and on Sunday it became ncc- Hj cssary to cut the stitches in the arm j and do what should have been done K originally. His arm is very sore and j he sutlers considerable pain. L. R. Martlncau Is at home from Chicago where he has been on business busi-ness for some time. On the 22nd Logan's sporting fraternity frat-ernity Is to. be treated to a sparring exhibition between "Jimmy Hcusser" of Salt Lake, and llcrt Danford, the Smlthlleld aspirant for pugilistic honors. hon-ors. Each man Is In hard training for the event and the bout will probably prove of considerable Interest. A girl from Preston was a visitor in Logan recently and as the story goes was Invited to a ping pong party given in her honor by her up-to-date hostess. host-ess. After the party she wrote to her matter-of-fact, but a littlc-bc-hlnd-the-times parents telling them of her delightful visit, concluding her letter with "and dear pa, I am in love witli Ping Pong. The old man Jumped to his feet, as he read the last sentence, and yelled to his wl.i "Ma, if Sallle marries that durncd Chinaman I'll disown her." Mrs. Empcy, wife of Bishop Empcy of Salt Lake, returned to lie. home at the capital city Saturday after a three weeks visit at tlio Miner home on East Center street. Mrs. Einpey has chargo of a branch of the relief society of Salt Lake, where It is her duty to furnish nurses for any and all poor families In tho city who need such assistance as-sistance tnd are hardly able to pay for it. This, arrangement was made possible pos-sible by the benevolence of a certain prominent physician of Salt Lake who agreed to graduate as nurses all young women who wonld come to her, providing pro-viding they would nurse for charity's sako during a period of two years. Many were glad of this opportunity and took advantage of it, so that the city now has nurses by the score ready for duty at a moment's notice. Mrs. Empey's recent visit to Logan was the ilrst In twelve years, and to her tho changes seem many and remarkable. |
