Ihe warden of the Tombs nt first declined to permit Young to bo taken to court, on tho ground that tho latter was 111. Tho Judge Anally ordered the accused ac-cused man brought Into court. When he appeared Young was In a pitiable condition. His faco was ashen white, his hair and beard long and unkempt and his eyes rolling. Ho collapsed when placod in a chair, and then, stratghtonlng up. made nn attempt to address the court, saying: "I am not crazy now." Ho was silenced, and a conference was hold botwecn court and counsol, when It was decldod that tho prisoner should bo examined by two physicians. When recess was called Youag either could not or would not walk, and had to bo carried from tho court room. The physicians examined Young during rocesB, and reported to Jus. tlco Horrlck in his private room tkat the stress of the trial would not hurt tho accused physically. Young was, therefore, carried Into ceurt, and Justice Jus-tice Horrlck having takea his seat, the examination of tho talesmen com-monced. |
