Show Stepping Westward. jH "What, are you stepping westward?" rsH "Yea." nH 'Twould be a wlldlsh destiny, jH It we, who thus together roam fH In a strange land, nnd far from home, ;H Were In this place the frucsta of Chanos; jH Yet who would atop, or faar to advanof, IH Though home or shelter he had none, iH With auch a sky to lead him onT JH The dewy ground was dark and caldj H Behind, all gloomy to behold; H And stepping westward seemed to be H A kind of hoavenly destiny; 'H I liked tht greeting; 'twas a sound H Of something without place or bound; lH And seemed to give me spiritual right !H To travel through that region bright. IH The voice was soft, and she who spake, H Was walking by her native laks; H The salutation had to me (H The very sound of courtesy; H Its power was felt; and while my eye H Was fixed upon the glowing sky, H The echo of the voice unwrought H A human sweetness with the thought H Of traveling through the world that lay H Before me In my endless way, H |
