Show THE LINFORD RESIGNATION H The resignation of President James II. Llnford H of tho Urlgham Young College will not como as H n surprlso to many, from tho fact that It has been H hcrotoforo announced, and was expected. Us uc- H ccptanco perhaps will causo more of n surprlso H l from tho fact that It was known that somo of tho H members of the board of trustees wcro very much H I nvcrso to Mr. Llnford leaving tho Institution. As H wo ore Informed ono member put It "You will H search a long whllo before you will find a man that H will bo as faithful as I'resldont Llnford has been," H to which wo destro to add, "You will search a long H time before you will find a man that will nccom- H plleh more under the samo conditions and clrcum- H stances." H James II. Mnford has been at tho Urlgham H Young College noarly a quarter of a century, dur- H Ing which time ho has served In tho capacity ot H Instructor, professor and prosldent. Ho haB seen H tho College under Us varying phaseB ot growth and H prosperity, and throughout It all has maintained H a strictly honest, careful, conservative courso. Ho has seen the school down In tho dumps, he bus B llkowlBo seen It on tho high plnnaclo of Its tome, "where tho proud crimson banner floats free In the H air," nnd whon thero was "Joy In each soul that H was there." In victory or In defeat, In poverty or H In prosperity bo ban given tho school tho beat H there was in him, he has given It his life, and what B ever of good It has accomplished during the past H fifteen yearn Is duo moru or less to his untiring H energy and faithfulness. H Of courso, like tho rest of us, he did not suit somo of us, nnd on that account some of us hnvo been working over tlmo In order that ho might bo H removed nnd somo ono put In his place who would H suit some of us. And right hero Is tho troublo of H tho whole; matter. Wo havo said before, nnd wo H retternto It now, that thlngH wero not as they H should bo at tho Urlgham Coung College, and we H recnll saying that if ladies nnd gentlemen could H not conform to tho order of things it was high time H somo resignations were forthcoming. To "speak H right out in mcetln," It is alleged that too many H pcoplo havo worked with President Jnmes II. Lin- H ford nnd hnvo rendered him very little support. H Hnd they hnvu put one-half the tlmo to supporting H him nnd working to build ui tho school under his H leadership that It is alleged thoy put to working H against him, it would no doubt havo been better B for all concerned. H Hut this Is perhaps hesldo tho question now. H Tho thing Is done, nnd tho futuro Is heforo us. But H right hero and now, vf, want to drop n word In B favor of this good man. Wo hnvo known him dur- H Ing the grenter part of his llfn, nnd never havo H ' wo known him to do or consent to the doing of H n single thing that was not right nnd Just. Ho Is H' ii worker, n Just, capable, honorable, true man, do- H i sirous of doing good to his fellows. Ho was nnd Hf. ' Is, one of tho best men It has ever been our pten- H j sunt' to know, nnd wo wish him success In nil his H futuro undertakings. Tho verdict has been rendered H tho futuro Is beforo us, and wp nwnlt tho announce- ment of his successor. |
