One night while thoro a clrcumstanpo Made too forget my pain; 'Twas whon tho nurses helped to dress Miss Adamson for tho train. Ab for mysolf I lay there, Feeling rather wearysomo, When all nt onco I recognized The voice of nurse Adamson. "M'ss Young" she called now come, help me, Get ready for tho tra'n,; And Oh, it sounded Just as it Miss Adamson wns In pa'n. True 'twas not pain of body, But her mind was all ajar, For she had Just Ave minutes, In which to catch tho car. The nurso realized that sho, : Was go'ng away that night i And Oh, If she should m'ss tho train I Just think of her sad plight. j So up the stairs camo every nurr.c One, two, three, four and five, Twos then me thought "this hos- pltnl, With nurses sure doth thrive." j The door which led nto my room, was standing open wide; j Full well I snw tho speed they mado I To reach Miss Adamson's side. I I thought at onco ot the angels, I Who climb tho golden sta'.r, " I True they were not as angelic, Death had not made them fair. I Miss Young took lead, iHnstow came next. I Jensen, Shepard and Ensign, , Mado no delay to mount those stairs Taking two steps at a t'mo. Then last not least, came Bak;r, moro slowly up tho stairs, ' For sho was on night duty, , And of courso she moved with caro- Thus wheng the nurses reached ber side, Their efforts were not vain, But had they failed to heed her call, Sho'd sure have missed tho train Miss Young then -packed her su.'t case, And strapped it up with caro; Miss Shepard brought her hat and gloves, And laid them ready there. Whllo Bastow got her handkercVof, And pinned her watch ln place, As Ensign put an extra touch, Of powder on her faco. The while Mis a Jensen colled ln place. Her locks of Jet black hair, Pronouncing her qulto ready, And she looked oxtromoly fair. , And when I heard hor lightly stop, Across tho hall and say, Good.byo, I was rolloved to know That sho was on the way! Now lf within those hospital doors I go not e'er again, I'll no'er forgot whon tho nurses helped Miss Adamson off to the train. And may we all whon seoklng help, Ask not alas In vnln, Whether wo'ro suffering, sick or weak, Or going to tnko the train. |
