Show FUNERAL OF MRS. JACOB WEST Tho funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Jacob West was held in the iPrst ward assembly room Sunday nt noon. Bishop 11. 0. Thatcher presiding. Mrs. West was a Latter-day Saint in full fellowship and though she had not requested such n lurial and despite tho fact that Mr. "West and the entire family fam-ily nrc non-churchmen, tho services servi-ces was strictly "Mormon" in ovcry detail. t The service was not of great length, but impressive. Following prayer by Pres. Joseph E.Cardon, "Ono Sweetly Solemn Thought" was sung very effect ionly by Mrs. Linnartz. Hon. Moses Thatcher then paid a glowing tribute to the life of the deceased and to the faimly she loft. He did not occupy a great deal of time but his woids wcro fraught with greatest comfort to tho wounded hearts gatliorcd about tho bier. Mr. Thatcher had known Cccilin "West nnd spoke of her as one whoso "character has beon from tho beginning until the end without rcpronch," n woman "nnturally constituted n nurse," nnd as one lovin gto wipo nwny tho sweat of pain." Tho speaker dwelt upon mortal life, its meaning, mean-ing, urged that tho futuro life is n certainty, nnd the "resurrection not n myth." Tho remnindpr of tho talk was devoted to a support of tho idea contained in tho last quotntion nbovc, andMr.Thntchor was never said more beautiful things or offered more crowning nrgument in as few words. Miss Phyllis Thatcher thon plnyed a hymn on tho violin. Hon. B. II. Roberts followed in nn nddrcsa of somo length, eulogizing eulo-gizing the class of women represented repre-sented in tho lifo of tho deceased. His tribute could not be to the individual, for tho speaker wns not acquainted with Mrs. West, but ho knew lier of her. lifo with sacrifices, its trinls and tribuln- tions nnd its unwavering faith, M and to these women, the fotinda- M tion of Utah, he paid highest res- pect and unstinted praise. Mr. M Roberts reviewed tho lifo of the H deceased, compared it to that of M his mother mid dwelt nt length M on the nobility nnd worth of such M souls. He then '"ifl drew a beautiful lesson from the M Bible story of the scene at the M sepulcher, citing how Jesus had H honored womankind above men. M His further remarks were deeply M interesting nnd appreciated. 'jH Frank Baugh sang n solo, "I M Have Head of a Beautiful City," H and was joined in tho chorus by H Mrs. Nettie Sloan, Mrs, Linnartz, H nnd Alex Preston, and Miss jH Thatcher on the violin. H Bishop Thatcher asked a bene- M diction on all, after which the jH remains were conveyed to the city 'H cemetery nnd laid to rest, Elder H Ilcbcr J. Carlisle dedicating the ;H grave. As tho casket wns lowered H the Presbyterian choir sang H "Ncnrcr My God to Thee." H Tho First ward room wns filled H with friends nnd the floral offer- H iugs were ninny nnd beautiful. JH |
