Show The Smithfield Doings SMITHFIELD, Oct. 2. The county convention convened, committed itself to, on the whole, a strong ticket and is now part of Cache county history. Smithfield, with its 111 votes, failed (o land anything but the trcasurcrship, which is, no doubt, all wc deserved. deserv-ed. This office is individually the best possibly on the county ticket, but benefits the town collectively col-lectively less than any of the county offices. John P. Toolsen received the nomination for 'treasurer, and is a good man for the office. ITc will fill the position posi-tion acceptably anil creditably, and deserves the support of all good Bepublicans. A surprise party of .some thirty-five young people visited Miss Gladys Farrcll Monday evening, the occasion being Mu-s Farrell's twenty-first birthdny. Tho evening even-ing was enjoyably spent in games and music. Uefreshmeiits were served at a late hour, to which those present did amide justice. Mrs. Seth Chambers-, Mrs. Mac Cantwell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Griffiths, Miss Euphemia Griffiths and Mr. P. Bichardson, and Mr. and Mrs. B. V. Larson were in Logan Friday evening attending the Salt Lake Opera company. Tho Smithfield Brass Baud and the baseball team wont to Preston Pres-ton Saturday, and helped to make the day there more enjoyable. The ball team beat the Preston nine, of course, the score being 12 to 'I. The funeral services over the remains of Andrew Hansen were hold Monday afternoon in the tabernacle. Mr. Hansen wns 81 years old at.tho time of his death, and had resided in this city for fifteen years. He had been ailing for sonic weeks before his death, I'hc cause being general debility. Or. and Mrs. States, of Franklin, Frank-lin, spent Sunday in Smithfield, the guests of Dr. and Mrs. B. .! Smith. The Republicans of this city will hold n primary next Monday Mon-day evening for the purpose of nominating a precinct, justice of the peace and constable. Friday evening a children's dance was- held at the Ilillyard opera house, and Saturday evening even-ing the regular Ballam orchestra dance. Milo Cantwell is able to be up from a serious attack of typhoid fever. Mr. and Mrs. Newton Woodruff arc again located in their home on Main street. Cal Corbet t, who was seriously injured a week ago, is progressing progres-sing favorably. Miss May Bingham is clerking nt K. R. Miles, Jr., store. Ait-stin Pitcher 'has a severe attack at-tack of typhoid fever. .John Hillyord has sold his ranch. |
