Show THE BARRETT MATTER. The democratic orgtyi suggests that Tiik Hiu-uhlican should have assisted assist-ed J. W. Barrett In his tight against Lorenzo Hcnson a couple of years ago. The suggestion Is but another proof of the Journal's ability to be very rldlc ulous at times. Mr. Harrctt, while city chairman, desired to become u member of the Hoard of Education. Mr. Benson and Mr. Hullcn desired the same thing. The three went before tho primary and Mr. Benson won out. It is the rulo In all games, political, social, religious, In war, In play, any place and all the time, that tho majority ma-jority rules, but Mr. Harrctt, at the head of. the city party organization, went out and fought Mr. Hcnson at the polls and what for? Because Mr. Hcnson was not quail lied for the olllce to which hs aspired, because Mr. Barrett Bar-rett thought himself or the democratic demo-cratic candidate more qualified? No! In his own language, It was becauso he thought Mr. Benson had "held olllce long enough." This wasn't playing play-ing fair, It wasn't a square deal, and) Tiik Ukpuiieican so presented It to the public. No party organization could stand foi such action on the part of any of its olllclals and Mr. Barrett Bar-rett was removed from the head of the committee by a vote of Its members. mem-bers. The Journal must admit that our own and the committee's attltudo was but Justice The Journal must also admit, that it was Incorrect In Its statement that Mr. Barrett was ever refused the columns of Tiik Ukpuhm-can Ukpuhm-can for any clefenso he desired to mak or for any purpose Mr. Barrett readily admitted to the editor of Tiik Rkpuiimuan, In the presence of Mr. A. O. Lundstrom, Saturday morning that he had never asked for any space In Tiik Hiu'uiii.ican. Hut will tho democratic crgan be big enough to admit ad-mit Its mistako In cither Instance? |
