A few years ago a good old deacon In tho Congregational church In that city, who had held many public ns well ns prlvnto offices of trust In the com. munlty, found himself on tho verge of financial ruin. In endeavoring to recoup and savo himself from Insolvency, Insolv-ency, ho drag-ed a largo number of his unsuspecting friends Into the maelstrom, mael-strom, and was finally compelled to resort to bankruptcy. Now wo will uso Hoxlo's own words in telling tho sequel: "Tho dny wus set for the deacon's discharge In bankruptcy, and after ho had got his decree, I was going homo for supper, when I heard the sound of music.
