Show H I! SALT LAKE'S MISTAKE. H j Tin: Rki'Iiiilican has little sym- H ' pathy with the average complaint of IH the small town against the larger and H more prosperous city. As a rule these H complaints arc simply a matter of en- H vy and jealously, narrow-mindedness, H , plethoric pride In ono's own achlcv- H , ments and possibilities, and not Infrc- H' i quently It's just a case of grouch or B ' dyspepsia. Ilowevcr.thcro occasional- H' ly comes a time in the course of human H events when all things point to a just H,M ' grievance, and man is convinced oven H against his will. For example, take Salt Lake city's attitude toward the rest of the state In all matters pertaining per-taining to the welfare of both. Salt Lake city, the capital of fairest .ion, should bo Its pride and glory.but Is IIV lly that city's disposition to corral everything In this state worth having. Its disposition to take all credit cred-it for any good within the state, Its evident desire to grow at the expense of the state It should be glad to build up, Salt Lake city Is "cussed" up one side and down the other by practically every city, town and hamlct'ln the State of Utah. The press of the state gives the pulse of tho people rather accurately, and the attitude displayed in the various towns Is not altogether brotherly. The latest cause for grievance griev-ance Is the disposition pf the Salt Lake press to give that city credit for about all that has been done In this state for the San Francisco sufferers. Those who have noticed tills will appreciate ap-preciate the following from the Ogdcn Stale Journal, which has been cooled In other state papcH as evidencing tho feeling all 'round. The State Journal sas: "There never was a town exactly like Salt Lake city. Nowhere on the globe has Its c(iial ever been discovered. dis-covered. It has more gall and "front" thin any village on the face of the earth. A man depending for a livelihood liveli-hood on the selling of ncno tonic down there would starve to death Does anyone originate an Idea? Salt Lake City tiles a copyright. Does any one In Utah do a good deed? Salt Lake appropriates tho credit. Just now .Ion plumes Itself on being the entire thing in this relief business. Everything is credited to Salt Lake. Ogdcn, Park City, Logan, and Proo are all merged In nne and depleted as annexes to the pulled up aggregation of wind Jammers Jam-mers who Inhabit the grass covered streets, the willow covered building lots and the can covered areas of the village below. However, wo presume we will have to stand for it. Salt Lake Is not only the center of the state, bulls the hub of tho earth. It Is not only the hub of the earth, but the pivot of the universe. uni-verse. It Is the Kolob of space, the axle of Infinity, the beginning and the end of eternity, the source of light and power, smart, good, nlce.pleasant, original and otherwise. Its latest stunt Is the feeding of the people who come through here. Wo do not expect Ogdcn will gctany credit for that, now that Fisher Harris has written Mayor Conrcy a letter and some one lias sent us up a caa of tomatoes to-matoes and a half cheese." |
