Show A Richmond Man Loses Out tBBJ Sent East for Furniture and It Cost Him I More than It Would Have Cost Here. I RICHMOND, May 1, 1'iOd Not long since a certain party received at our station a shipment of freight a set of furniture rrom a prominent eastern mall order house Tho party In question looked at his goods and seemed pleased that he was getting them considerably cheaper than he could buy them at homo. But after he had paid the freight charges and compared anew the amount he had to pay for the suite and what he could get satno (or even bettci stock) for from our local house, ho found he could havo saved over $10.00 by buying buy-ing at home This Is an actual fact and happened at the Richmond depot not very long ago. Names and date aru withheld In this aitlcle. We would llko to stale a few facts regarding this condition of affairs This gentleman, like dozens and dozens of others or our town and elscvvhete, really thought he was getting get-ting a bargain and did not stop to think that by sending away for goods not only he himself lost but also our town and stale. Let us look at this situation squarely Is It not a fact that tho dollar spent with our homo grocer, dry goods dealer, hardwaro merchant, druggist, butcher, barber, oranyothc In 'Iness man, helps that much to upbuild our town? Do not these pay licenses and taxes to support sup-port our town and county to tepalr our streets and all other I npioments? Whenever wo decide to give i ivlcbra-tlon ivlcbra-tlon asou the tth or L'lth or July, for example, or build a new tabernacle, or make some public Improvement, tho mall order houses never donate one cent toward these causes. Tho business busi-ness houses at homo aro the ones called on fur help, together with big hearted citizens who always put up their shate of the expense money Give Back Nothing. None of those mall order houses ever put up a cent to help build the school houses of our city or county or repair our county or city toads. They create no local market for any products pro-ducts wo havo for sale. Do you think It Is a fair deal to ask any of our local merchants to take our butter, eggs, meat or potatoes which aro all perishable perish-able articles In exchange for cash, and then send that money out of town for articles we can buy hero usually at a price fully as low as that offered by those who have no more Interest In us or our town than to jerk every dollar out of our town they can possibly get? Now to conclude, did any mall order house ever take you by the hand when you were In distress and tell ou they would let that llttlo account go over until after threshing next fall? No, they must have tho cold cash, spot down. Kind reader, citizen of Richmond and Cache Valley, let us stand by our local dcaleis who always stand by us with their patience, time, skill and money Let us mako Richmond Rich-mond and Cache Yalley better to live In by keeping our money at home.
