Show r - 4vj" ..'.-. MISS GEORGIA HARPER. Opera House, April 9. Lewiston Breaks Into Print Things Happen Over There and a Good Correspondent Writes 'Em Up. Li'.wihTo.v, April 5. After so much stormy weather Lewiston is again taking on a spring appearance. Farmers Farm-ers are busy preparing to begin spring work and will be ploughing and sowing sow-ing In a few dais If tho presenueondl-Hon presenueondl-Hon continues. Great Improvements and piogress arejn stoiofor the Immediate future for Lewiston. Already a great many have commenced Improving their alaecs. in order to keep pace with the place In general. The ward authorities and Lewiston State Bank and the Utah Mortgago Loan Corporation combined have recently re-cently had tho old board fence removed re-moved from the opera house corner and In Its place have erected a nice new picket one. The new fence will bo painted and when it is finished will greatly add to tho appearance of that part of the city. Mr. Geo. E. Telford Is putting a new fence In front of his new residence, resi-dence, and others have ttio material on the ground to follow suit; also several sev-eral have commenced to erect line barrls which arc characteristic of Lewiston. Yesterday morning Anderson & Anderson commenced the frame work of an addition to their store. The foundation has been In for some time. They are making the now part Just the same size as tho old building and after deducting for otllcc and store room, sutllcient space will remain to make a convenient and up-to-date salesroom. Still Killing Ducks. if reports aro true, and thcro seems to be moro reason to credit than to doubt them, the game laws of the state aro being deliantly and persistently persist-ently violated In the vicinity of Lewis-ton Lewis-ton by tho slaughter of ducks which are now coming to our rivers and marshes In great numbers. Tho open season for ducks closed on the 15th of March, but there aro a number of our local nlmrods who are cither ignorant of tho fact or have no regard for the law. Just why It Is any less criminal or reprehensible to violate tho game laws than it Is to break the law against burglary or horso stealing Is not clear to somo minds, and thero aro a numbc of our citizens who aro old fashioned enough to think that the laws ought to be obeyed and would like to see a stop put to the killing of ducks and other gamo out of season. Social Affair. Mr. John Hawkswood our ambitious Lewlstonlto evidently believes In the old adage "Just as good fish In the sea as have been caught." Notwithstanding Notwith-standing he has been in pursuit of a damsel for many years ho has Just recently re-cently selected and become tho possessor pos-sessor of a wife. During tho winter John has erected a neat little cottage on the south west corner of the tabernacle taber-nacle square block, and last Thursday night tho members of the seventies quorum, of which John Is a member, went there with their ladles with baskets laden with eatables and surprised sur-prised the happy two. Our roads In town aro m a very bad condition. It Is not an uncommon tlilni' for people to bicak tugs and single trees on Main street. A well dressed drummer after getting stuck In tho mud the other day asked one of our boys if he could tell him where Main street was? Ills leply was, 'Yes, under this mud." As Mr. Henry Stocks was riding home from work a few evenings ago his horse stepped Into a hole left by the telephone people, throwing him to tho ground and hurting him some. It might have been worse, and such places should be looked after by the proper oillclals. The grammar grade department of of the Stephenson district school will discontinue on April Kith after a short but succcsssul year's work. Personal Mention. Jos. Pond and wife, Lewis Pond and Jos.
