Show A Large Number of Petitions Logan Citizens Ask City Fathers for Many Things. . What the Council Did. The Logan city council held a long session Wednesday evening, considering consider-ing a whole grist of matters. Several Petitions. A. G. Lundstrum and about tweTity others of the Seventh ward presented a petition for extension of the water- I mains commencing at the Inteisection of First North and Fourth East streets, and running thence cast along First north street to the east boundary bound-ary line of property belonging to Fred . Councilman Evans, however, thinking think-ing he saw an advantage to his Journal Jour-nal friends in having tho matter acted on without investigation, made a sub-motion sub-motion that the Journal be awarded tho contract, their figures, as he saw it, being the lowest. Councilman Crawford in a very consistent .ipeech urged that tho custom of referring matters of this kind, and practically every kind, Ue followed In this instance, and lie took Councilman Evans to taw very sharply for his Inconsistency, Mr. Evans usually being very Insistent on regu- Ilarltles. Mr. Crawford was supported by Councilman Stevens who said that lie, for one, did not understand figures In relation to six, eight and ten point typo, and ho saw good reason for having hav-ing tho matter referred to tho proper committee for a report. , Mr. Crawford's motion prevailed. The committc appointed to ascertain ascer-tain amount of money In Electric Light fund available for the erection of a lire hall reported a total of $0,1)20. On motion of Evans a certain $720 was cut out and the remainder ordered transferred.
