Show TOLLED HIS OWN KNELL". Indiana Church Sexton Hangs Himself Him-self to a Bell Rope. I Joseph Kroch hanged himself to the bell rope in th belfry of St. John's Catholic church at New Haven, Ind., of which he was sexton, and tolled his own funeral knell. One rope is used to toll the bell for funerals or when members of the congregation die. The knell was heard to sound, but only once, and it was supposed to have been an accidental tug at the rope. After the early morning service an altar boy was sent to the organ loft a? ,eran(1' anl in passing through the belfry found Kroch's body dang-S? dang-S? the end of the rope used to toll the bell. When he swung himself clear of the floor the bell sounded once and that was the signal of T dath- He had been nervous and suffering from insomnia. |
