Show France Selz.-s Turkish Custom House. A dispatch from Admiral Cai'lai'd, received at Paris Thursday, announces that he landed marines on the island of Mitylene and occupied the customhouse custom-house at Midilli without resistance. The French government has received satisfactory replies from all the powers without exception to its note explaining ex-plaining the measures taken against Turkey. An excellent impression has been created in official circles by the reply of the United States, which was couched in most friendly terms. Official advices received at Paris say the Turkish authorities have cut the telegraph line between Mitylene and Constantinople. Thus Caillard was unable to communicate directly with M. Bapst, counselor of the French legation le-gation at Constantinople, and was obliged to file all dispatches at the island is-land of Syra. |
