The special conference of the Church of Jesus Chri-tof Latter-day Latter-day Saints was heid a' Salt Lake tabernacle last Sund.i.y, and was largely' attended. ' President Joseph P. Smith presided, and all the general authorities were present except Apostles Lyman and Grant. j President. Smith made an ex-1 tended address in which he said: ' ' I propose that my counselors shall share with me the respori-1 sibility of every act, " he said, ' after reviewing the powers of . the first presidency. "I don't propose to take the bit in my own mouth nor the reins in my own hand, I believe it is wrong for one man to possess all the authority and all the power. I dare not assume much responsibility, responsi-bility, and will not so long as I can get men like these to stand with me and counsel with me. If anyone in the future sees a tendency on my part to violate his pledge, I ask in the name of my Father that he will come to me and tell me of this solemn j covenant that I make to the gen- eral body of the church assem- i bled in conference at this time." Joseph F. Smith was sustained as trustee-in-trust for the church, and all his acts since his appointment, appoint-ment, Oct. 17, were ratified and confirmed. President Smith was also sustained as head of the , church .hoard- of ?1-Vl gen-' eret Sunday School Ml on and' general superintendent of the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Improve-ment association. I George Reynolds was sustained sustain-ed as first assistant superintendent superintend-ent of the Sunday School union, Joseph M. Tan er as secot d assistant superintendent, Join R. Winder, James E.
