Show Fine Milling Gold Ledge Found In Basement Base-ment of Government Building at Helena A ledge of free milling gold ore was struck Friday while grading the foundation foun-dation for the United States federal building at Helena, Montana, which is now under construction. The ledge is a very strong one of iron-stained quartz, containing free milling gold. The government, when letting the contract con-tract for the government building, explicitly ex-plicitly stipulated that any finds of mineral by the contractor should go to the government. ' This is the second rich strike of ore made within the Helena city limits within the last thirty days. The ledge extends across the street under the residence of Colonel Thomas Cruse, and is shown up again while grading for a street at a point about 1,000 feet northwest north-west of the government building site. The ground through which the ledge runs is tbe bejt reMnce district in Helena. There are a series of these big ledges running northwest and southeast across the site of the city. The diversity of interests in the ground has been the difficulty in the way of development. |
