ADDED TO THE UNITED STATES NAVY J The cruiser Galveston, which has figured in the litigation at Richmond, Va., owing to the dissolution of the injunction which restrained the government gov-ernment from taking possession of her, is one of the class of ships which were begun about three years ago. She has a displacement of 3,200 tons, a horse power of 4,500, is 292 feet long and 44 feet in the beam. The Galveston Galves-ton is pretty well armed. She carries ten five-inch guns, eight six-pounders, two two-pounders and two Colt automatics. auto-matics. Her complement will be 293 men. The Galveston Is one of the most powerful vessels in the navy. |
