Show J How it Has Grown. In the yenr 1872 thd Peopled Co-op Wn9 first founded by n few citifcensof !Lehi wlio niet together nnd organized tho institution. At that timo T. JR. Cutler was one of tin? ie.uling promoters. At the commencement it never enteied into tlie minds of those '.vlio started it that it would ever grow to thu mammoth jprcpoitiona it uhsuiiips toiJny. Hut like "the careless lolling of tin ocean tid-j it has gone forwa-d gathering strengtli at every move. From the little, dingy iidobo room whieli btood when the Lehi C. & S. JJank now stands it has, through the wise nndoctioihical management manage-ment of those who have been in change, grown to occupy one of the lurgt-t-t "buildings south of Salt Lake City. From the one clerk, Mr. T. K. Cutler, who used to do the waiting on the customers who patronized the institution, it has developed eo that today" in all of its branches it takes about -T hands to serve the host of people who throng t lie institution to do business froni tar and near. For its stockholders it has been one of the best dividend paving institutions in the state. Its commeieinl standing nbioad is mos excellent, giving its superintendent, Mr. Backer, a prestige whereer no got u that adds to his privileges in the markets when he wishes to purchase goods foi the institution. Trie other day as is his custom once I in a while Supt. Backer kindly showed us the enormous amount of goods just arrived from the purchases he had made whilo east. To sec the great building with its several departments crowded with the choiceet kinds of goods, and wares of every discription from the basement to the roof is an indication of what the institution is doing in a business line. Never before has such a consignment of goods arrived here at ono tiDe. The freight alone amounts to nearly $500. The ladies department de-partment is filled with all the fancy and pretty goods that ladies can desire. We noticed that the institution carries a very large and elegant assortment of wall paper, which is readily and easily eh own by means of a special stand. The carpet department has in it some of the prettiest and surely cannot but please the most fastidious. There has been several improvements made in the upstairs department to make things more handy. Supt. Backer UBnered us into a neat and well 'urnished room in the southwest cornerj which has just been completed as a directors room where they can meet to do business. This great institution is an example of what can be accomplished I in a business line when the right kind of men handle it, and should be an incent'iTo to those of our merchnnts who I have only started a few years in our 1 midst, but aro growing very rapidlv . |
