Show CHS Redmen suffer loss to AF Cavemen his best game of the season. He hit four from the field most of them jn the final period, to keep the Redmen in contention until the final minutes of play. Friday the Cedar High School Redmen take a bye in Region Six action and will host Boulder High School of Nevada in a game slated at 7:30 p.m. at the high school gymnasium. The Redmen were in action Wednesday against Payson at Payson. Results were not available at this writing. In last week's action the Redmen suffered a 75-66 loss at the hands of the Cavemen of American Fork. The loss dropped the Redmen's record to 4 and 7 for the league season and put Coach John Neilsen and his crew in a tight squeeze in the race for State Class 3A tournament' tour-nament' berths. Six of the nine teams in the Region will advance to state. The Redmen were never out of contention against the favored Cavemen of American Fork until the final four minutes of play. As a matter of fact the Redmen held a one point advantage, 17-16 at the end of the first quarter of play. On the inside strength of Beck the Cavemen poured in 20 points in the second period, eight by Beck, to take a 36-29 lead. Although the Redmen never regained the lead, they stayed within striking distance. Nathan Johnson was one of the key men in the Red-men Red-men offense as he con-sistantly con-sistantly broke the Caveman press and set up easy points for the Redmen. Beck hit 15 from the field and connected on four of five from the foul line for 34 points. Burgess, who is the leagues third leading scorer was held to just 10 points and he left the game late in the final period on fouls. Paul Hatch also turned in a good game in the back-court back-court for the Redmen and was in double figures with 12. Kerry Cox, the Redmen's leading scorer, was held to 10. American Fork took the lead in the contest at 21-19 and reeled off nine straight unanswered points before the half to an 11 point advantage, ad-vantage, 34-23. The Redmen came back on four fouls by Johnson and a bucket by Hatch to narrow the gap to 7, 29-36 at the intermission. In the third period the Redmen mounted a charge against the Cavemen and brought the score to within one point midway in the period, 39-40. Trailing 40-31 Johnson hit a foul, connected on a three point play and added another fieldgoal to draw within three at 40-37 and Cox tanked one from the key to bring the score within one at 39-40. At that point Beck took over control of the offensive boards and the visiting Cavemen reeled off eight straight unanswered points and managed to maintain the nine to 12 point spread for the remainder of the game. Kirt Smith came off the bench to aid the Redmen cause, particularly on the boards and he added 12 points to the cuase. It was SCORES AGAINST CAVEMEN.
