May 1929 A grand opening was being planned for the completion com-pletion of Lee's Ferry Bridge. Mayor Christensen and George A. Mitchell, secretary of Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, made a trip to Lee's Ferry to meet Mr. Meacham of Flagstaff, Arizona, manager of the celebration that would be held at the bridge on Flag Day. A program was to be given in honor of the day with a a grand snake dance by 1500 Indians dressed in their tribal splendor. A campground was being provided with electric lights. An airstrip was being installed about 1V2 miles from Lee's Ferry. May 20. 1954 Was the grand opening of the new J.C. Penney Company store. The doors were opened on this day for business. G. H. Campbell was the mananger. The Penney store has been located in Cedar City since 1923.
