"Because of the retirement of Baseball Coach Cleo Petty, the rotation of the position of athletic director, and personnel per-sonnel changes in the past couple of years, we felt a reassignment of athletic department personnel would be advantageous at this time," James M. Miller, dean of the School of Education, explained. The newly selected coach is Don Conrad, a 1973 graduate of SUSC and currently head football coach and assistant baseball coach at Cyprus High School in Magna. He was named from a large number of applicants for the position. Conrad was a four-year football letterman from 1969-1973 1969-1973 for the Thunderbirds. For three years he was named to the all-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Con-ference team as a linebacker. In 1971 he was named to the NAIA honorable mention all-American all-American squad. He is a 1968 graduate of Springville High School. He was an all-state player, team captain, and most valuable player for the Red Devils. While at Springville, he also participated in baseball and track. In addition to his coaching assignments at SUSC, Conrad will teach physical education courses. Both the men's and women's coaching staffs have been affected by the reassignments which will become effective July 1. Under the new organizational structure, Steve Lunt, currently cross country, track, and junior varsity basketball coach, will serve as athletic director and chairman of the Department of Physical and Health Education.
