Show Redmen host three-way track meet Cedar High School Red-men Red-men track and field squad -one of the top 3A contenders in the state this year -- will be at home today, Thursday, in a three-way meet against top 2A and 1A clubs. The triangler meet, to be hosted by the Redmen, will include Delta High School and North Sevier. Events will get underway at 2 p.m. at the SUSC stadium, according ac-cording to Coach Jack Bishop. The Redmen were idle over the Easter Weekend after squeezing out a 67-64 win over El Dorado High School in Las Vegas, Nev. early last week. In that meet the Redmen garnered eight first place in the 14 event meet and three of the Redmen were double winners. Probably the outstanding performance for the Red-men Red-men was the duel win by distance runner Richard Adams. He picked up a victory in both the mile and two-mile events. (In Utah a high school athlete cannot participate in both of these events, but it is permissible in Nevada.) Other dual winners were Brad Jackson in the sprints with victories in the 100 and 220 yard dashes and Vance Matheson with a victory in both the intermediate and the high hurdles. Joe Wells picked up a first place in the shot put and Steve Hunter came home with the blue ribbon in the 880 yard dash. El Dorado had a number of excellent sprinters and they picked up victories over the Redmen in both the 440 and mile relay events to narrow the gap in the closely contested meet. The Redmen thinclads have been on the road throughout the season and are hosting the meet today for their first home appearance. ap-pearance. Local sports fans will have their first real opportunity to see the Redmen in action. So far this season the Redmen have broken three state 3A records including both sprint events by Jackson and the Intermediate In-termediate Hurdle mark set by Vance Matheson. Richard Adams has already set a new school mark in the 2 mile event. |
